Just over five years ago the Swans beat Hull at the Vetch to secure football league survival and last night they beat them again – this time at the Liberty Stadium – to progress into the third round of the Carling Cup at their expense.

Goals from Gorka Pintado and an extra time Jordi Gomez penalty secured the victory for the Swans and Roberto told the official site after the game

"I'd like to give this victory to the fans who have been tremendous since that memorable day back in 2003 when we beat Hull at the Vetch Field to secure our Football League status.

"I know there were a lot of changes on both sides, but it still shows how far we've come as a football club when we can compete and beat a Premier League side.

"In the first-half you could see why Hull are a Premier League side. Perhaps we showed them a bit too much respect and were a bit cagey.

"But from the start of the second-half I thought we controlled the game and looked the stronger side as the game went on. The quality we showed was fantastic.

"The extra-time winner rounded off a perfect night of cup football and I hope the fans enjoyed that display.

"The effort and demands the players made were well worth it in the end. It's a great achievement to reach the third round for the first time in 26 years and we will enjoy the cup run.''
