Cardiff City Trio Anticipate Swansea Cup Tie

All three were looking forward to the clash on September 23 after the Carling Cup draw pitted the two sides together for the first of a minimum of three meetings this season.

It will be the first time the two sides have met in more than 6 years and it has been almost a decade since the last league meetings meaning that there was a little more interest in this fixture than there has been in the past.

And with both sides flying high in the Championship, it promises to be an exciting encounter in front of a sell out Liberty Stadium crowd.

Joe Ledley: “Somehow, I just knew this was going to happen!

“We’ve got to win it, end of story. It’s great to play in local derbies.

“I’m looking forward to it, and so should everyone else because it’s a massive game.

“It’s up there with some of the biggest football rivalries.

“The players should know that, even those who haven’t been here that long.

“Every Cardiff youngster dreams of playing in it.

“We’ve got to go out there and show them what we can do.”

Darren Purse: “It’s great for the fans, a fantastic draw. As soon as the Championship fixtures came out, the Swansea games were the first ones they looked for.

“We have to look at the bigger picture, but hopefully we can go to Swansea and get the result we need – and not have as many injuries as we picked up against Milton Keynes Dons.”

Roger Johnson (who almost joined Swansea before signing for Cardiff): “As soon as our names came out, I was like, ‘Here we go…’!

“We’ll take it – we know it’s going to be a good game for us. There are a lot of Premiership ties in the draw. If we can get through and draw sides of our level and below, it could be like the FA Cup and we’ll find ourselves in the semi-final.”
