Flynn Predicts Victory For Swans At Doncaster

Flynn will always be remembered in Swansea as the man who saved the club from the Conference back in 2003 when it seemed that they would be dropping out of the football league.

But Flynn also played for Doncaster towards the end of an impressive playing career that also involved Leeds and Burnley as well as of course caps for Wales.

Speaking to doncasterfreepress.co.uk ahead of the Swans visit to the Keepmoat Stadium, the man who almost guided Wales Under 21 to a major finals next summer said “Even though results are not going their way I hope Doncaster stick with their footballing principles.

“Confidence seems to be lacking at the moment but if they can turn these defeats into draws, then the draws into wins, it will soon return.

“They’ve certainly got enough good players to get out of trouble – particularly Brian Stock, who I’ve liked for a long, long time.

“Swansea are a team I see a bit of and they have shown already that they are capable of holding their own in the Championship.

“Probably after Christmas, depending on certain things up to then, they will have hopes of finishing in the top six because they are a good footballing side with some talented players.

“I took Leon Britton there from West Ham and I said all along that he was at least a Championship player – and he’s proving that now.ย  Their midfield three of Darren Pratley, Ferrie Bodde and Britton is what makes them tick.

“The combination is good with those three because they are all good at certain things and work together well.

“Roberto (Martinez) has had a great start to his managerial career and I signed him as a Swansea player so I know him inside out.

“I had no doubt that he would be a successful manager because he loves his football and knows exactly how he wants to play.

“Roberto’s main strength is that he is a very good communicator with everyone – you have to be with players to make sure they understand their roles.

“He has used his Spanish influence to bring in some quality players and the club has a homely atmosphere for them to come into.

“The key is that Roberto has integrated them, allowing them to settle in and then play their best football.

“Doncaster and Swansea have many similarities as both clubs hit hard times before bouncing back – although Swansea didn’t lose their league status.

“Swansea were dead and buried when I took over but sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwards.

“The club took a huge backwards step and then moved on.ย  But the danger was falling out of the league because the team was struggling badly.

“I played a part in preventing that happening and, once that was achieved, it was not surprising to see the club move forward.

“It’s very satisfying to see them and Doncaster where they are now.

“There will be plenty of goals as Swansea win 3-2.”
