Swansea City midfielder Leon Britton may well still face former boss Glenn Roeder this afternoon, despite in a fitness race to overcome a persistent back problem that saw the 26 year old sit out Tuesday nights 1-0 loss to Watford in the 4th round of the Carling Cup.
Whilst the midfielder’s departure from Upton Park was down to his diminutive stature, the skilful winger has grown in stature and since his move from the premiership club in 2002 . Since then Britton has become a fans favourite and even the former Newcastle United boss has admitted his appreciation both for his former charge and the free flowing brand of football Swans manager Roberto Martinez chooses to employ as he told the Western Mail.
โLeon was released because I think he was considered a little bit small stature-wise for the Premiership. But what I do remember about Leon is that he is a fantastic human being, a very determined lad and a good little footballer.I can see why heโs in this Swansea team, because they are a footballing team and Leon is all about passing the ball and moving. He is a good man.โ
โThey were outstanding last year in League One. They will pose us questions and we will need to come up with answers when they have got the ball. They have got their own system, which is different to what we will have come up against this year.Another key factor is that they have got a settled side, they hardly ever have to make a change.I think within the game we might have to change and be able to cope with the change. I wonโt have excuses whatever happens that we didnโt have the experience.โ
