And as the man who scored the winner back in September, Gomez was naturally hurt at missing out on the chance to do it again but he insisted that there was still enough in the Swans side to ensure that they can get the bragging rights in South Wales once again.
The Swans must overcome the loss of Gomez and Bodde for the game although it does look as if Leon Britton is set to return for the fixture giving the likes of Tom Butler and possibly Owain Tudur Jones the chance to come in and stake their claims for more permanent places.
“I’m very, very disappointed,” Gomez told Wales on Sunday
“That is a huge game that a lot of us have been looking forward to, especially me after my happy memories of the last game.
“I still have people saying ‘thank you’ for scoring that goal and not to be able to play and try and win it for the supporters hurts.
“I have had a good run in the side since that game and I don’t want to miss any games – but the fact it’s the derby makes the feeling worse.
“But it only means that it’s someone else’s chance to play and someone else’s chance to be the hero for us. It’s disappointing that I have picked up five bookings, but we have good players all the way through the squad.
“And whoever comes in will do well and want to win as much as I would.
“We play with the same style whoever we are playing against and I think it is the football we play more than the players that have helped us succeed so far this season
“It is a big game but Coventry is on Tuesday and that is just as important,” he said. “We are very disappointed after Birmingham because we had the match controlled and we would have deserved to hang on.”
