On loan Aston Villa left back Stephen O Halloran is relishing his chance to impress after Fede Bessone was ruled out for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury.

Replacing the Argentinian at left back against Barnsley on Tuesday evening the Irish defender has expressed his delight in getting some match time under his belt and thinks that playing alongside Ashley Williams. Garry Monk and Angel Rangel helped him settle as he told the SWEP, he said “It was my first match for a while against Barnsley, so I was happy to get that under my belt.It was a quick game but as it went along I settled to the pace.”

“You are playing with good players like Ashley (Williams), Garry (Monk) and Angel (Rangel) so it was easier to slot in with experience like that alongside me.Tom (Butler) played in front of me and he is a quality player, so that helped me settle.”

Despite his jubilations the result against the Tykes left the 21 year old distinctly disappointed but has vowed to bounce back against Sheffield United tomorrow, he added “We were a little disappointed with the outcome against Barnsley, but with the way we ended the game we are hoping to take that into tomorrow’s match with Sheffield United.”

With two months yet to run on his loan deal at the club, the Cobh born defender is hopeful that he will impress and learn more about the game under the guidance of Roberto Martinez,”I have another two months here and, hopefully, I will impress. I have been waiting for my chance and I need to take it. I have a lot to learn about the game and, hopefully, the gaffer will help with me that.”
