Swansea City striker Pintado is off to Germany next week for an operation on his hernia – an operation that the Swans have been putting off for a few weeks

This means he will miss league clashes with both Reading and Preston at the Liberty as well as any potential FA Cup fourth round tie – assuming of course they come past the Histon challenge this weekend.

And Pintado is aiming for the 31 January clash at St Marys for his comeback with recovery time expected to be up to two weeks.

“We have given Gorka the best chance to cure his symptoms,” physio Richie Evans told the Evening Post. “His recovery process is between 10 and 14 days and it is the best date we were given.

“There were three options for his operation. He could have the traditional method, which usually takes around six weeks, while there is one where you have mesh inserted into your abdomen, which takes two weeks.

“But we went for what we call the Munich method, which will see him out for two weeks and it is the best method for Gorka.

“The target is to get him back before the end of the month so the Southampton game is the likely game he will return for.”

Evans was also pleased with both Marcos Painter and Ferrie Bodde who are both on the long road to recovery “Marcos has been given a week off to recuperate and catch up with his family, but he returns next week to step up his rehab,” he said

“He has made excellent progress so far and is ahead of schedule.

“I have been in contact with Ferrie on a daily basis and he has met all the landmarks set for him. He is off the crutches now and the signs are good for his recovery.”
