There was widespread criticism – not just from within Swansea – of the Histon reaction to the draw when it was made on November 30.ย ย Looks of disappointment and thumbs down bought some to say that they were disrespecting their Championship opponents shortly after being Leeds in the second round.
But Fallon said it was more one of disappointment than disrespect as he prepared his team to face the Swans in tonight’s re-arranged third round tie.
Fallon said “There’s a big difference between showing a lack of respect and a natural expression of disappointment.ย I hope Swansea understand that, when the third round draw was made, we had just beaten Leeds and everyone was on a high and at that stage of the cup it’s normal to dream of landing one of the big guns at home.
“Yes we could have had a better draw – but I can’t imagine there were too many people at the Liberty Stadium jumping for joy when they came out of the hat with us especially after what happened to them at Havant and Waterlooville last season.
“Of course we respect Swansea, they are a fine footballing side and this is likely to be our hardest game of the season.
“But respect works both ways and if our fans were not leaping around the clubhouse I reckon the same goes for Swansea supporters.”
