The Evening Post is reporting that the Swans are prepared to break the transfer record to secure the services of Nathan Dyer on a permanent basis.
The paper reports that it will take a fee of more than £500,000 to sign Dyer after his more than impressive start to life at the Liberty Stadium.
And if they do strike a deal then it will eclipse the £400,000 that the Swans paid Stockport for Ashley Williams before this season started.
The Saints had agreed a fee with Sheffield United of £1.2m before Dyer’s loan spell there earlier this season but he failed to make an impact at Bramall Lane and the deal was never made permanent.
Swansea are keen to push a deal through before the transfer window closes next Monday but Southampton – who are strapped for cash – are keen to hold out for as much money as possible and know that more displays like he has shown so far and Dyer’s stock will rise.
The paper also suggests that it is reasonable to think that Dyer will spend the rest of the season at Swansea merely as a loan player and that negotiations will continue and not be concluded until the summer.
The Swans coffers have been boosted by the FA Cup run which has so far netted over £500,000 and will double should they come past Fulham in the 5th Round on February 14.
