Former Manchester United trainee and Swansea City defender Alan Tate could hardly contain his excitement following the FA Cup quarter final draw which see’s the 26 year old potentially facing his former club in the last eight of one of the worlds most followed domestic cup competitions .
However it equally left the defender asking more questions to why Swansea did not beat Fulham despite putting in a performance that deserved so much more than a replay against the cottagers on the 24th February , he told the SWEP, The first thing I said when it came out was ‘Why didn’t we beat Fulham?.”
“We should have got through on Saturday and I can’t believe we didn’t now that it could be United next.It would be amazing for the club if we could get through. The fans deserve a big club at home and there’s no bigger club in the world than Manchester United.”
Leaving the Old Trafford club in 2002 on loan to join Swansea, Tate is relishing the chance to pit himself against the likes of Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo but has warned his team mates not to get complacent ahead of the replay, he added “It’s a great draw for me personally, especially as it would be a first chance to face my old club. But we have got to beat Fulham at their place now and that’s a big ask.
“Realistically we haven’t been drawn against United until we get through and I’m sure Fulham will be just as excited as we are about the chance to face them.”
“It doesn’t make that much difference being away from home. The pitch might be a bit narrower and a bit shorter, but we have to go there and play as we always do. It would be amazing to play United, so hopefully we can all come together as a club and try to get past Fulham.”
