The Swansea City goalkeeper put in a man of the match display on Tuesday night but it was not enough to keep the Swans in the FA Cup leaving them to concentrate solely on the league and their push for the Premier League.
They currently sit just outside the play off positions but entertain relegation threatened Charlton on Saturday – the first of seven games in a hectic 21 day schedule.
And Dorus believes that the Cup run – they took Fulham all the way as well as knocking out the cup holders on their own patch – shows that the Swans are ready for the Premier League should they book their place in the next few months.
Speaking to the Western Mail, De Vries said “This team is ready to take the positives from the cup and kick on now
“We’ve got 13 games left in the league and show the same pride we’ve done since November.
“It’s a talented group of players and we’re still learning and progressing.
“But we know that if our mentality is right then something beautiful can happen.
“It doesn’t seem like a huge gap between these teams and ourselves,” he said.
“Of course, it’s completely different over a whole season than just a few games.
“But I think we’ve got the talent in the team to adapt to certain circumstances.
“We showed that against Portsmouth, Fulham at home and again away on a ground where they’ve got the second-best Premier League home record.
“We showed that too against West Brom in a pre-season friendly which we drew 0-0.
“We’ve got a taste of the Premier League now – a good taste.
“As players that is what we dream of, the Premier League is a great attraction and that is the stage where we want to be.
“We worked so hard, but perhaps we just dropped back a little bit too much,” reflected de Vries.
“They pushed on and physically they’re a strong side, but we’ve got to keep the lock on the door in those situations.
“We were caught out of position by a quick corner-kick and we’ve got to notice that danger.
“But in every experience there are learning moments. We had that against Charlton in the first game of season at this new level and it’s been the same again in the cup.
“The positive thing is that during the season we are learning to cope with what’s being asked of us in the Championship.”
