Despite the 3-1 win the Spaniard does believe that the scoreline did not reflect the true nature of the game but the early goal from Ashley Williams settled the squad down as he told the BBC, he said “ I don't think it was comfortable. Obviously the first goal was going to be vital because you are looking at the need for both sides to win for different reasons. (The goal) was going to be a major, major influence on the game. Obviously scoring early settled down a lot of what we wanted to do.”

However his Swansea side passed the test with flying colours as the march for the play-offs shows no sign of abating, Martinez added ”The reality was that we knew we were going to have to probably deal with a huge pressure from Barnsley.“

“We needed responsible performances. I was delighted the way we defended This is a difficult place to come at this stage of the season so we are delighted with the result."
