Part of the vastly improving Welsh U-21's that nearly secured a place in the U-21's European Championship in Sweden this year, Allen was certainly primed for promotion due to his stellar performances for both club and country. It came therfore as no surprise that Dragons manager John Toshack called the 19 year old up to the full Wales squad.
Taking to the field to replace Jack Collison on 80 minutes in the 1-0 win over Estonia at Parc Y Scarlets, the midfielder made his first team debut, but to run out in front of a crowd packed with Swansea supporters made it all the more special as he told the Western Mail, he said “It was exciting to make my debut anyway. To do it in front of a lot of Swansea fans made it extra special. It was a massive step up from the U21s.Estonia aren’t a great footballing nation, but any international team is strong at this level.”
With a world cup qualifier against Azerbaijan on the horizon in the Azeri capital Baku on Wednesday, the prospect of facing Berti Vogts side has Allen beaming with pride, It would be nice to get the chance to take that step again in the next couple of games. If I do get the nod again when we play in Azerbaijan, I’ll be very proud.” He adds, “It’s been the best season I’ve had by a mile.Things just seem to be getting better and better. This has ended the season nicely for me, and I’m just looking forward now to developing and progressing even more.”
