Speculation yesterday hit fever pitch, with rumours suggesting that Martinez had sensationally quit the club. However with no agreement with Wigan for the 35 year old in place, Swansea fans are holding their breath for official confirmation of Roberto's future at the club.
Swans Chairman Huw Jenkins has revealed that he and Wigan chairman Dave Whelan are “miles apart” in the compensation fee for one of the brightest managers in the game. Jenkins is thought to be holding out for a £2 million+ compensation package.
It would be a massive blow to the club but one new signing is keen to see the charismatic Spaniard stay as Stephen Dobbie revealed to the BBC, he said, “I would be disappointed (if he left.)”
"The way he spoke about how he wanted the team to to play and how I fit in… the way he wanted the whole club to move forward… was very encouraging. That's just football for you. Obviously, I would love him to stay as he brought me in to improve the team. “
"But he has got to improve himself and if a move comes along that's right for him, you can't really stand in his way.He has got his own career and I've got mine and if he moves I've just got to get my head down and work hard for the next manager if that happens.”
Celtic's interest in Martinez has cooled in the last 48 hours with the news that West Brom's Tony Mowbray is the favourite to succeed Gordon Strachan at Parkhead.
