Jenkins Short-List Down To Six Candidates

Roberto Martinez finally completed his move to Wigan yesterday, giving Jenkins the green light to step up the search for a new manager. The Swansea chairman would not be pressed into naming the six, Jenkins said, "We are down to about six main people. I know in my mind who we're looking at but I'm not going to give names.”

It is widely thought that Sheffield United midfielder Gary Speed is one of the favourites to land his first full managerial post but Gus Poyet is also in the frame to take over from Martinez as is former Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd.

Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale, is also thought to be still on Swansea's radar but the Devon club moved quickly to reassure their fans that the tactician who guided the club to back to back promotions would not be leaving St James Park.

Whoever is likely to take the reigns at Swansea, Jenkins is hopeful that they can make some headway in appointing a new manager over the course of the week , Hopefully it will push on between now and the weekend,"
