Swans Draw Leicester in FA Cup Third Round

The last time the two side’s faced each other was on the opening day of the season at the Walkers Stadium, with Paulo Sousa’s side narrowly losing that game 2-1.

Last season’s FA Cup campaign saw the Swans beat non league Histon 2-1 away at Bridge Road in the third round to set up a fourth round showdown away to then cup holders Portsmouth. Goals from Jason Scotland and Nathan Dyer broke Pompy’s dreams of retaining the show-piece domestic cup.

Swansea then were drawn against another Premiership outfit as Fulham rolled into the Liberty Stadium. In a game that further showed the South Wales clubs ambition and class, the Swans were unlucky not to win the game after Jason Scotland drew the home side level after Garry Monk’s 44th minute own goal separated the two sides at half time.

Knowing a mouthwatering tie against Manchester United awaited the winner of the replay and with a sizeable travelling support, the Swans took the lead early in the second half first, thanks to close range Jason Scotland strike. However Welsh hearts would be broken in a five minute lapse of concentration as American international Clint Dempsy’s header drew the home side level. Just four minutes later Bobby Zamora put Fulham in the driving seat to seal a fifth round spot against Manchester United.

Ties will be played on the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of January.
