The Swansea City captain has made just one appearance in the last two months and will now face a further two weeks minimum lay off from the side.
Monk’s absence is likely to mean an appearance on Saturday for Albert Serran thanks to the suspension of Alan Tate with a Swansea spokesman explaining the reason for the absence.
“Garry has been feeling okay but then suffering recurrences of the injury, as happened before the Cardiff game,” he told the Evening Post
“A tear has been found in the calf and he must rest for around two more weeks.”
Monk played at Scunthorpe at the end of October and was due to take his place in the South Wales derby a week later but broke down in the warm up.
He is aiming to return against Sheffield Wednesday on 19 December
