The Swansea City defender finds himself just six league starts away from an extension to his stay at Swansea thanks to a clause in his contract.

And in an interview with the Evening Post, the Spanish defender says he could not be happier than he is in Swansea after a hugely successful two and a half year stint to date.

“The past few years have been really good for me in Swansea,” says Rangel, who clocked up his 100th league appearance for the club on Tuesday night.

“I didn’t know what to expect when I was given the chance to come to Wales, but it has really worked out for me.

“I’ve settled into the style of play and the life here, even though the weather is not so good, but I am playing for a successful team with a great squad.

“I love it here. There was a part of the contract that said I will have another year here if I played so many games, and I’m very close to that.

“I don’t know of any talk about me now, but the important thing is that I am doing my best to help the team get into the Premier League.

“That is where we want to be and I think the club has moved forward in the time I have been here.

“Sometimes if you are listening to people talking to you about this club or that club, then it can stop you playing at 100 per cent.

“But I prefer just to concentrate on Swansea City and what we are doing this year.

“There are some massive clubs in the Championship, but I think we proved last year and this season already that we are a very good team.

“We learned a lot from last season in the league and cup games, and I think we are better off for it this season.

“We didn’t play too well on Tuesday,” he conceded.

“We kept possession as always, but we didn’t create much.

“We won the game, but we need to be better against Forest because they are playing very well.”
