Whilst Cardiff City are at Chelsea and Cardiff hosts Scotland in the egg internationals, it seems to have gone almost unnoticed outside of Swansea that 5th plays 2nd in the Championship at the Liberty Stadium this lunchtime.
Both the Swans and their visitors Newcastle are pushing hard for a place in next season's Premier League and the Sky Sports cameras will broadcast today's action from the Liberty but that is just about as far as it seems to have got.
Far from worrying about it though, Swansea seem quite happy going about the business that has seen them 8 games unbeaten in the league and currently six points clear of the non play off positions in the division.
“What we’re doing seems to be going under everyone’s radar for some reason. I’m not sure we understand it, but we’ve accepted it by now,” Ashley Williams told the Western Mail
“I was talking to the lads the other day about watching Sky Sports News and them showing all the Championship goals – all bar ours against Palace.
“People show the promotion contenders and they don’t talk about us; when we beat Palace they’re described as strugglers, even when they’re not.
“And when other teams beat teams down the bottom that’s never the case. It just doesn’t seem we’re getting the credit for what we’re doing. I know it sounds petty, but you can’t help notice it when you’re down here and you know what we’re doing deserves recognition.
“But, fine, we know we’re Swansea City not Newcastle United and we have to accept it’s going to happen like that.
“And we’re happy now just going about our business and not worrying what people are or aren’t saying about us. We’ll just keep on surprising people and stinging those who ignore us.
“I think other managers are taking us seriously because you can see it in the way they play when they come to the Liberty,” said the 18-cap international.
“Even Neil Warnock admitted the other night we’re the best side they’ve played this season.
“It’s probably more the media and the fans of the other sides in the Championship that don’t see us as a top-six side but, like I said, we accept that and we’re happy if we can keep on showing them up.
“We didn’t do ourselves justice up there in terms of the result; we probably did with the way we played, but the record books don’t show that,” said the former Tamworth and Stockport man. “It was a big defeat for us, but I think they knew they’d been in a game despite the score.
“We’re playing better than we did back then and, with the position we’re in now, I’m sure they’ll respect us again.
“But it’s up to us to do something about it.It’s going to be a big crowd and a big atmosphere – the lads have talked about the Leeds game when we were in League One and the effect that had on our season.
“Winning that game set the season up. When you throw all that in it’s probably our biggest game in the league this year.”
