Williams Wants To Get One Over Former Boss

The Swansea City defender will see Peterbrough boss Jim Gannon in the visiting dug out tomorrow with Gannon the man who gave Williams his big breakthrough when they were together at Stockport.

Peterborough though arrive at the Liberty fighting against relegation from the Championship with Williams hoping to take the Swans on another step towards the Premier League with victory.

Speaking to the Western Mail about the game, Williams said โ€œIโ€™d had a few managers at Stockport before Jim, but he was the one that really gave me my chance

โ€œThe manager before him did not really like me at all and I did not play that much for whatever reason.

โ€œThen Jim came in, and he said to me โ€˜Youโ€™re a good lad, go out and play.โ€™ I tried to do that and then one thing led to another.

โ€œMaybe I would be where I am now without him or maybe I wouldnโ€™t, but it would not have been as easy. I would probably have had to go the long way around.

โ€œJim gave me the confidence to express myself. He made me captain and I had a really good relationship with him.

โ€œI think heโ€™s a brilliant manager, one of the best Iโ€™ve worked with, along with the gaffer here now and Roberto (Martinez) last year.

โ€œI think Jim will manage at the top one day, but we will be doing our homework before the game.

โ€œThey will want to come and try to stop us playing, but we will be wanting the three points.

โ€œAs a team weโ€™ve used a lot of players, the gaffer has kept players fresh and, personally, I donโ€™t feel itโ€™s as hard as last season,โ€ he said.

โ€œI feel a lot better than I did last season. I feel really fresh. It feels like Iโ€™ve got more days to rest this time. The manager has done things better and none of the boys are struggling.

โ€œLast year we felt we were always chasing a play-off spot, but this time we are nicely positioned.

โ€œWhen I looked at the table the other day I did a double-take, but it does give you that enthusiasm to come in and work hard.

โ€œThe funny thing is I donโ€™t think we are playing as pretty as we did last season, but we are grinding out the results this time, like we did at Derby.

โ€œItโ€™s a nice feeling, especially as a defender coming away from a game like that.โ€
