A clean sheet on Saturday for the Swansea City goalkeeper will see him overtake Swans legend Roger Freestone with the most clean sheets in a season for the club.
However, despite his obvious pride at beating such a record, De Vries says it will count for nothing if the Swans slip out of the top 6 having won just one of their last seven league games.
He told the Western Mail “To break the record against Cardiff would be great, it would guarantee a result for a start.
“Cardiff have got a lot of attacking threats. But we have played many teams this season that either have individual threats or are really attacking as a team.
“And we have shown that we can cope with a lot of pressure.
“I’m looking forward to the game. Hopefully we can get another clean sheet and result this weekend. That would be really, really nice.
“The record doesn’t mean anything unless we get in the top six,” he explained.
“When records are broken, you still need to have another result and that’s determined by where you stand at the end of the season.
“As footballers you play for one thing, to win games. You want to get three points, home and away, and you want to score goals because the three points is always the main focus.
“To be a team which is capable of having so many clean sheets is a great feeling because you know that, when things get tough, the team will stand up.
“You can then build on that and, when certain players are in form, good things will come.
“When you look at the whole of our season, it’s clear the good things have come our way.
“The amount of clean sheets we have had this season is class. It shows that we are really organised as a team and it’s a big compliment.
“It really has been the base of our success this season. That’s always the way when you don’t concede many goals.
“Over 50 per cent of our games have been clean sheets this season and that’s brilliant.
“Now we just have to take all those positives into this weekend and get another one which would be really amazing.”
