Emnes Joins Up On Loan

The Dutchman becomes Brendan Rodgers’ fourth signing after agreeing terms on a temporary switch from the Riverside Stadium.

Emnes hasn’t made a single appearance for ‘Boro this season with Gordon Strachan – who left the club this afternoon – preferring the likes of Andrew Halliday and Tarmo Kink on the wings.

Following a good start under Gareth Southgate last season, Emnes began to show the form which persuaded Middlesbrough to part with ยฃ3.2m two years ago, including a stunning strike at the Liberty in a 3-0 win for the visitors.

But the arrival of Strachan stunted his progress, and his appearances became limited, so the move to south Wales will surely come as a relief to the 22 year old.

The former Dutch youth international can play on either wing or up front, so will provide Rodgers with some versatility and even more pace to be able to call upon, adding to thatย of Nathan Dyer and Scott Sinclair.

“I spoke to the manager (Brendan Rodgers) before I came and we both agreed that the way Swansea play will suit my style,” Emnes said.

“I like to play on either wing, left or right, and create one on one situations with defenders because my pace is good for me.

“The team is doing well at the moment and I know I will have to wait for my chance. But I need to play games and that’s why I’m here.

“I heard Swansea tried to get me at the beginning of the season, but it didn’t happen for one reason or another. But I’m here now.

“I remember it being a nice stadium and a good atmosphere. I also remember the goal.

ย “Hopefully I can score for Swansea as well.

“I played with Kemy in the national side. I know him very well.

“I’ve also played against Dorus in Holland – and scored against him!”

The signingย will surely raise even more question marks about the future of Emnes’ fellow Dutch teammateย Cedric van der Gun, who has said that he is on the lookout for a loan move after struggling to cement a first team place.
