Tate – There Is Excitement About What May Happen

Tate has played in three divisions for the Swans and wants to make that four as the Swans look upwards for a potential promotion to the Premier League.

And if that happened it would be bottom of the league to the top division in an incredible 8 year period for a player who arrived from Manchester United.

Playing in the Premier League for Swansea was something no-one would have even thought of not so long ago,” Tate told the Evening Post.

“Me,ย Garry Monk and Leon Britton, who has left now, have played for the club in three divisions.

“To get to the fourth would definitely be nice.

“Maybe, if we could get there, people would start talking about us in the same breath as the likes of Curt and Robbie James.

“Obviously I wasn’t around at the time, but I have heard all about them and I know all about them

“These are the players you want to be mentioned alongside.

“Hopefully, in 20 or 30 years’ time, people will still remember the current Swansea team.

“When I joined the club we were right at the bottom of Division Three, so it would be a good story.

“It’s been an unbelievable start,” reckons Tate.

“We lost toย Portsmouthย last weekend, but I don’t think anyone is on a downer.

“Things like that happen. If Chelsea can lose at home to Sunderland, then we can all drop points.

“And especially in this league, it is going to be like that all season.

“But there is excitement for us about what could happen this year.

“It is a totally different feeling from anything we have had since I have been at the club, and probably since Toshack was here.

“Before now, we have never been this high up the table and managed to stay there as long as we have.

“There is pressure on us, but it is a nicer pressure than we had going into Hull in 2003.

“If you don’t have belief, there’s no point in being in the game,” he says.

“If you are only going to think that you might do something, you are going to end up in mid-table or scrapping to stay up.

“It’s important that you have belief, as long as it doesn’t turn into cockiness or complacency.”
