Speed was speaking after being confirmed as the new Wales manager – leaving Sheffield United after just over four months in charge.

“It would be great to haveย Cardiffย and Swansea in the Premier League,” said Speed.

“From my own experience this season, Cardiff and Swansea are both very strong teams. If they can go up, it will only be good for Welsh football and I hope they do.

“If that can continue and Swansea and Cardiff get in the Premier League, hopefully it will give those players more of a chance of playing for Wales.”
