Rodgers told the official site after the game “Our reaction was fantastic today, to come away with the win, a clean sheet and a very good performance is so pleasing.
“Our performance level was very good. It was an exciting game and we looked exciting going forward. We created plenty of chances and, without showing any disrespect to Barnsley who are a good side with an excellent manager, we should have won by more.
“Having only won one in six, today we had our creativity, steel and spirit back again.
“Dorus (de Vries) pulled off a few great saves, but I don’t think anyone can argue with the result.”
Brendan was also quick to explain the six changes he made for the game “I sat down with all the staff a week ago and planned our teams over the next four games,” he said.
“With four games in eight days we had to optimise our performance levels and I felt some players would need a rest. It was important we had players that were fresh coming in.
“I’ve said in the past that I’ve got a fantastic squad here and the players that came in made their mark.
“Coming from Cardiff, Jermaine had a mixed reception when he made his debut. But the supporters here are terrific and gave him a great reception when he came off.
“It proves that if they see you giving 100 per cent it doesn’t matter where you are from.
“It’s nice for him. When you go to a new club as a striker, you want to score goals. And it was a great finish from him.”
