Britton – I Made A Mistake Leaving

Britton returned to Swansea City from Sheffield United yesterday and immediately set about telling people he made a mistake leaving.ย ย  Fellow promotion candidates Norwich City and QPR were both interested in Britton but it was only Swansea that he wanted to go to after accepting his mistake.

“It was a mistake and I should never have left Swansea.” he told the official website

“Hindsight is a wonderful thing and none of us would make any mistakes if we knew what was ahead of us.

“Last season at Swansea wasn’t the most enjoyable for me, on or off the field. I wasn’t enjoying my football as I had in previous seasons.

“I felt at the end of that season I needed a new challenge. I spoke to Kevin Blackwell at Sheffield and I liked what he said about the way they wanted to play the game. Unfortunately it didn’t work out as either of us planned.

“While working under four different managers in such a short space of time didn’t help, the players, directors, staff and supporters at Sheffield United were great with me from the very first day I arrived.

“They are good people at the club, but I think they understood why I wanted to come back to Swansea.

“I realise now that the Swansea style suits me down to the ground and brings the best out of my abilities.

“I’m really grateful to the manager (Brendan Rodgers) and the chairman (Huw Jenkins) for giving me this second chance at the club.

“As I said, I made a mistake, but I hope the fans will let me put it right. They’ve been brilliant to me in the past and I want to show them again that I’m good enough for a place in the squad.

“I spoke to a lot of the fans when I went to watch Swansea in the Carling Cup at Wigan. Monks got me tickets in the away end and, if I’m honest, I was a bit apprehensive over the reaction I would get from the Swans fans in there.

“But they were brilliant and gave me a real warm Welsh welcome, something I will never forget.

“Then it really hit home to me again how much I missed the club, city and the people when I stood alongside the Swansea players in the tunnel at Bramall Lane earlier in the season. After eight years at the club, it just didn’t feel right lining up against them.

“But that’s in then past now and I’m really looking forward to working with the manager. All the players I’ve spoken to have been singing his praises over his training methods and man-management skills.

“I’m just delighted to be back”
