Tate Not Dwelling On Cup Own Goal

The Swansea City captain on the day, Tate sliced an attempted clearance into his own net late on in Saturday's game and end the Swans hopes of progression letting Leyton Orient land the dream draw with Arsenal when the 5th Round matches were selected on Sunday.

But he won't let that goal affect him as the Swans prepare for a massive week that sees them travel to Bristol City on Tuesday night and then host local rivals Cardiff City next Sunday.

“You don’t have to say too much when you’ve been beaten at home by a team that’s in a lower league than you,” he told the Western Mail.

“You’ve got to deal with it in your own way.

“You’ve got to move on and forget about it. The quicker you forget about it the better.

“It’s no good sulking about it, otherwise it’s going to stay in the back of your mind and perhaps hinder you in games that are coming up.

“There’s not a lot we can do now apart from move on to the league.

“The best way to deal with it is when another game comes along quickly like Tuesday.

“A couple of years ago when we were doing well in the cup it hindered our league form so hopefully this one will go the other way and we can pick up in the league and get ourselves cemented in the play-offs.

“A lot better players than me have scored own goals so it’s just one of those things.

“I was happy with my overall performance. People say it’s a mistake but it’s not a mistake, just a misjudgement.

“It was up to me to clear it but it sat up and hit my shin and gone in. There wasn’t a lot more I could have done.

“I don’t think we’ve fallen out of form,” he added. “Just because we lost this game doesn’t mean we are out of form.”
