And whilst he acknowledges his former club will be tough opponents he isready to feel the pride of a nation should the Swans go into the Premier League at the end of the game.
Speaking to the Western Mail Rodgers said “If we play well, perform and get the result on Monday, then we will be proud as players and as manager to be the first Welsh team in there
“It would be great to be the first Welsh team because it is fantastic to be the first of anything.
“And the Premier League would be a better place – no question.
“It would attract thousands of supporters to come here and get a feel for Swansea and the beauty that is here.
“And, from a football perspective, it would be brilliant.
“The players have earned the right to be in the final and we are looking forward to going there,” added Rodgers.
“But we are obviously cautious as well because you might only get one chance at it.
“I remember going to Wembley in 1995 with Reading when they lost to Bolton and people after the game were talking about just missing out but next year could be their year.
“It took 10 years for them to get promoted after that.
“So there is an understanding it’s a big game and this is a great chance for us.
“When you get to the finals there are no favourites. It will be a tough game, no question.
“We focus on ourselves and how we play. If we control and dominate the games like we have for most of the season then it is difficult for the opponent.
“Reading will be thinking if they put their game-plan in place and try to disrupt us it will be difficult for us.
“It’s one where if you need that little bit of luck and if you can bring your game into it then you’ve got a good chance.
“We are no more or less confident than we always are.
“I will be very proud of my players no matter what the result.
“This year we have made many more friends, improved our identity as a club and the style of the team.
“Irrespective of the result, they have given me everything.
“But I want them to grasp the opportunity for the city and the club.”
