Ricketts spent a happy time at Swansea City befor departing for Hull City from where he knows all about play off finals having played in their triumph in 2008 that saw them make the Premier League.
And he believes that this could be Swansea's time as he explained to the Evening Post "There's no reason they can't do it — a big pitch will suit Swansea's style of play so they've got a good chance.
"You have to hit form at the right time.
"Swansea have done that, they've won their last three games of the season to get into the play-offs and they performed excellently in the last two.
"It's just a question of taking that on and relieving the pressure so they can play their best football.
"I come down when I can, but obviously playing football it's hard to," said Ricketts.
"I was at Swansea when they were in League Two and there's been a progression ever since.
"It's culminated with a Wembley appearance and a one-off game to hopefully get into the Premier League.
"It wouldn't be a step too far for Swansea, they've got a great base at the club for the top flight.
"It's just a question of numbers really — they need to strengthen their squad.
"They've got (Fabio) Borini in on loan and they need someone who can score goals. Everything else is there for them not to be fearful."
