Moreira joins on a two year deal for an undisclosed fee and fills the gap left by the exit of Dorus de Vries to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
After dropping down to third choice in the pecking order at Estadio de Luz, Moreira felt that it was time to leave Portugal to find pastures new.
He made 148 appearances during his time at Benfica, with his last appearance a memorable one – helping the club to the League Cup with a penalty save in a 2-1 win.
Moreira, according to the official site, is renowned for his distribution and leadership skills, which is undoubtedly one of the reasons to persuade Brendan Rodgers into doing the deal.
He will undergo his medical on Monday before joining up with the rest of the squad for pre-season training.
Welcome to the club, Jose!
