Williams has already had talks opened with Swansea City over a new deal – some of which has been promoted by transfer interest in the summer including interest from QPR
Speaking to Wales on Sunday, Williams said “There might be something there for me to sign soon which is great – but it’s not as if my future’s up in the air.
“There was obviously some talk of bids over the summer, but it’s just talk and you get on with it. I was abroad when a few stories about me and some of the others came out and I was laughing at it more than anything, because you don’t know anything about it and you can’t do anything about it. It’s not new, it’s been the same for the past couple of seasons.
“It’s all irrelevant really. If a bid came in and it was serious and I actually wanted to go it’s only then would you start thinking about it and all the factors.
“Perhaps it might have been different if that had happened and we weren’t in the Premier League. But we’re here and that’s the main thing for myself. I wanted to get here and complete the journey having come from the bottom.
“And it’s great I can do that with Swansea because after the three years so far it would have been disappointing if I’d not have had that chance. We’ve done it together and we can look forward to the new season.
“It’s about getting there and doing it now,” he said. “People will make judgements based on nothing but you can’t tell until you’re actually there.
“We’re the same as players, we’re just as guilty having looked at guys playing in the Premier and saying he’s not good enough when we’ve not been at that level ourselves.
“It’ll be good to go in and mix it and see what happens because, until then, it’s just guesswork. We’ll either sink or swim as a team and as individuals, but it’s going to be good finding out.
“People can say what they want because we were written off in the Championship; we were favourites to go down in my first full season here.
“It’s not new for us and we won’t get angry about that because it’s obvious no-one’s going to fancy us when we’ve just come up. Now it’s about proving them wrong and ourselves right."
