Stephen Dobbie is aiming to pick up where he left off at the end of last season
Dobbie was in very strong form at the end of last season, form that was capped off with one of the goals that helped fire the Swans into the Premier League via the Championship play off final.
And he is looking to take that form into the new season with the Swans having ended their pre-season preparations with a 1-0 win over Real Betis at the Liberty on Saturday.
Dobbie said “The end of last season was a good time in my career
“I was enjoying my football, and to win a play-off final at Wembley for the second year in a row was fantastic.
“The second leg against Forest and then the final against Reading were probably the two biggest games since I’ve been at Swansea, and maybe two of the biggest in the club’s history.
“To score in those two games was fantastic, and hopefully I showed the fans that maybe I could have helped the season before.
“Maybe we could have been in the Premier League a year earlier.
“I started the season well but the gaffer brought a few players in and I had to bide my time and wait for a chance again,” he adds.
“Then he changed the formation to fit me in, and he gave me a licence to roam about the pitch and get on with my work.
Does he remember the Wembley goal? “I remember the ball popping up but I can’t remember anything from the moment I hit it,” he says.
“I’ve watched it back and it was just great to see it go in.”
And so to the top division, where Swansea will look to Dobbie for more magic in the final third.
The defenders trying to stop him will be that much better, but Dobbie is full of confidence.
“One thing I’ve never done is doubted my own ability,” he says.
“I finished last season in good form and hopefully I can take that into next year.”
