Brendan Rodgers says he had chances to leave the Swans this summer but wants to stay at the club

The Swansea City manager steered his side into the Premier League last season at the first time of asking and that clearly got other clubs showing interest during the summer.  It also led to discussions on a new contract fro Brendan but those talks were declined for now by the manager who is happy to carry on with the current arrangements.

Speaking to Wales on Sunday, Rodgers said “I spoke to the chairman and he said, ‘What do you want?’ But I said, ‘No, listen, I’m fine. I am happy.

“We will see how we go this year and then we’ll review it at the end of the year but I’m happy. Money is not the motivation.

“I said to the chairman, ‘Don’t worry about me’. I had a couple of possibilities to leave in the summer but I’m happy here.

“I want to keep repaying the club and as long as the club wants to keep moving forward then I will be happy to be here.

“I have come to the club and hopefully I have repaid the faith that they showed in me by giving them the biggest prize.

“The important thing for me was to get the players in to help sustain it and then my situation can come later.

“But while I sit here at this moment I’m happy and my family is happy.

“I realise that money isn’t everything. All the money in the world won’t make me happy.

“I’m 38 years of age and hopefully I have a long time left in football.

“I will have many good and bad days but I feel I’m at the perfect place I can be at to learn.

“For us to arrive here is a wonderful achievement, but now here we will fight to stay here.

“I’d love to sit her and say we’re going to challenge for the top-six but the reality is we’re not in that position.

“But I don’t want to sit here and say I want to finish 17th because we might finish 10th, you don’t know.

“We will aim to finish as high as we can.

“But the big picture will be to stay in the league, that would be an incredible achievement.”
