Jordi Gomez has backed his old side to do well in their first season in the Premier League
Gomez will make his own return to the Liberty tomorrow as Wigan arrive for the Swans first home game of the season and Gomez said on the eve of the game “It’s always difficult for a new team coming up, but they have a settled side and I think they can do well.
“A lot of great work has been done over the last two years and it’s great to be able to play against them now.
“When I was there, the aim was always to get into the Premier League within three or four years, and they’ve finally done it. I hope they will do very well this season, and I think that they will.
“I always had a good relationship with the fans, but I don’t know what will happen on Saturday.
“Hopefully they’ll be good to me for what I did while I was there.”
Gomez is still in touch with Andrea Orlandi and Angel Rangel at Swansea.
“I still speak to some of the players there,” said Gomez.
“In fact, most of the players are still there from when I was there, and they play the same good football as we did.
“I had a great time at Swansea, and it was the first game I looked for when the fixture list came out.
“I enjoyed my time there, the life was good, and I have only good memories.
“It will be nice to go back to Swansea but now I am with Wigan and I will be doing everything I can to help us win the game.”
