Ian Brown has been out and about again this time talking to the Mackems about their club and the game on Saturday

Ian went searching around the world of Sunderland on the internet to ask his questions of their supporters ahead of what will be a record breaking game at the Liberty this Saturday.

Around 2000 Sunderland fans are expected to make the trip to South Wales and these are some of their views ahead of the game.

How long have you supported Sunderland and what first got you interested?

  • All me life – got into it because my mams side of the family were all Sunderland and threatened never to speak to me if I didn’t
  • First game was 1974 me dad took us
  • Since June 1981 when I was born. I had no option my parents saw to that. The first time I can remember actually being excited about going to a game I was about 5 and we were in the UK on holiday visiting family so I went with the rest of the family to Roker Park.

Who would you support if your team wasn’t around?

  • If SAFC weren’t around then there would be another Sunderland team formed similar to FC United and I’d go and support them
  • Rangers

Do you mostly go to home or away matches?

  • Mostly home games but it will probably be around 50% of away games as well
  • Go to a canny few away as well
  • When in the UK I try to get to as many matches as I possibly can home or away.

Who is your all-time favourite player at your club?

  • Chris Makin, closely followed by dean Whitehead, Niall Quinn and Kevin Phillips
  • The Lord Rowell
  • Super Kevin Phillips

Who is your present favourite player at your club?

  • Bardo
  • Jack Colback

What was the most important goal scored for your club and who scored it?

  • I’ll just be dull and say Porterfield in the 1973 FA Cup Final

Which (if any!!) of our players do you like?

  • I follow England so I like Leroy Lita after watching him score in the U-21 Championships in Holland a few years back.   And you’ve got Thomas Butler so I’ll vaguely see how he’s getting on
  • Leighton James
  • I can’t think of any that I like, but nor are there any that I don’t like either
  • Alan Tate, cos hes from up here and is a canny lad. (When he was a young kid,(aged about 4 or 5) he was in hospital next to my son over xmas time. Both lads turned out to be good footballers. Alan was picked up and progressed, through Man Utd my lad progressed through the mags, then Man utd before going to York then was released (IMO it was a geographical decision by them not to offer YTS but life goes on)

What’s your prediction for our match, goal scorers etc.

  • 1-1 – Sessegnon for us, Graham for you purely because I’ve never rated him so he’s bound to score

Which team are your local and/or premiership rivals?

  • erm, Newcastle like.

What league position do you think that you/we will achieve?

  • We’ll be about 9th, you could really be anywhere from 14th-20th, there’s not really much seperating the bottom sides in terms of quality so a good bit of organisation and you could survive the drop although it’s a big ask
  • Us, 8-10. You – 19th
