Brendan – We Are Here To Compete

Brendan Rodgers says that Saturday’s goalless draw with Sunderland just reinforces that his side can compete in the Premier League

Although the Swans are yet to find the net in the Premier League, the 0-0 draw was their second clean sheet and second point in their opening three games

And as they head into the first international break of the season, Brendan took time to reflect back and believes that there is plenty to take heart from in the opening games

“You’ve seen in the opening three games we can more than hold our own in the league,” he said.

“I just felt that if we had a little bit of good fortune we would have taken all three points.

“[It was] another game that reinforces that we’re here to compete in the league.

“You need resilience also in this league and hopefully the performances, which have been very good, will get the results and the wins to match that later on.

“I felt our performance level was very, very good. We’ve done everything bar score, but what was important was that we kept another clean sheet

“It’s another clean sheet which, if you can’t win a game at this level, you need to try and ensure you don’t lose it.

“Even though I’m confident and believe the goals will come, because our creativity is good, then what’s important is the other end of the field that you can be defensively strong as a team and I think we’ve shown that in two of the three games.

“It gives us a nice chance to reflect on the opening weeks,” added Rodgers.

“Obviously one or two of the players go away and will gain valuable experience at international level.

“Then we’ll come back in a couple of weeks time to get ready for another fantastic day and occasion for our club.”
