Ash – Monk’s Return Makes It Business As Usual

Ashley Williams shrugged off the injury to Steven Caulker and insisted that with Garry Monk back it would be ‘business as usual’

The Swansea City captain will return to action this weekend to plug the hole left by the 3 month injury to the on loan Caulker who has shone in his four Premier League games for the club.

Monk has yet to feature this season but should lead the side out against West Brom for his own Premier League debut for the club.

“Monks has trained and played a few reserve games so it will be business as usual,” said Williams. “He’s ready. He’s kept telling me this week how ready he is. “I’m guessing he might have liked a bit more time this week in training, but if he goes in, I’m sure he’s fit enough and sharp enough.

“Everyone knows I like to play next to him, but I’ve really enjoyed playing with Caulks as well. “Like I say, it will be business as usual.

“I’m pleased that he’ll finally get to play in the Premier League for Swansea. He deserves that,” said Williams. “If he plays, he’ll be fine because we know each other’s games.

“He’s a brilliant player and, as I’ve said, he’s a player I enjoy playing with and one I’ve learned a lot from. “His experience will come in useful and with the adrenalin, I know he’ll be okay.

“We all know he’s the captain, although I’ve really enjoyed wearing the band in the last few games,” said Williams.

“The more potential captains you can have on the pitch the better, and to look across and see someone who takes responsibility all the time is reassuring.

“Monks has played against Shane Long before and he puts himself in positions where he’s not going to get beaten for pace,” said the Wales international.

“We played against Shane Long three times last year. He’s a good player who scores goals. “He’s got some sort of Matrix hang time, where he can hang in the air forever.

“From what I’ve seen, he’s very sharp, he’s quick and he’s a good finisher as well. He’s lively for the whole game. “I think he scored against Manchester United on his debut and we all knew he could step up because he’s such a good player.”
