De Vries Tips Swans To Stay Up

Dorus De Vries has tipped his former team mates to remain in the Premier League after the 2-2 draw at Molineux on Saturday

De Vries told the Western Mail after the gameย โ€œThey look pretty good and compliments to Brendan Rodgers, who has made some additions to the squad this season,โ€ said de Vries, who kept 46 clean sheets in his last two seasons at Swansea.

โ€œThey try to pass around you, theyโ€™ve got a great midfield, quality up front and at the back as well.

โ€œThey have adapted to life in the Premier League very quickly.

โ€œGiven what Iโ€™ve seen on Saturday and in earlier games, Swansea can definitely stay up.

โ€œTheyโ€™ve got a great squad that have been together for ages and, with the couple of great new additions in there, they have good quality.

โ€œWith the philosophy theyโ€™ve stuck with over the last few seasons, there are a lot of positives.

โ€œI talked to Michel after the game and he could totally understand my decision because it was the same for him when he left Utrecht,โ€ added de Vries.

โ€œFor him itโ€™s a great opening.

โ€œItโ€™s good that heโ€™s playing in the Premier League because heโ€™s a Dutch international.

โ€œYou always set personal challenges and to be involved in the Dutch national team would be a dream.โ€

The goalkeeper was given a mixed reception from the 2,000 travelling Swansea supporters, with some jeers when his name was read out before the game.

He added: โ€œThe reaction was normal and I would have expected a bit more if anything because I know how itโ€™s been for other players that have left the club, like Jason Scotland.

โ€œLee Trundle was the only one who got a positive reception.

โ€œWhat was really good to see was there were loads of Swansea supporters here.

โ€œAnd something that was very dear to me was that familiar faces among the Swansea fans were asking about me.

โ€œThey wanted to see me so I went outside to see them, to give them autographs which brought back great memories.

โ€œThatโ€™s something I really enjoyed because I had a great relationship with the fans.

โ€œSome maybe donโ€™t understand my choice, but sometimes that happens and Swansea will give me some great memories Iโ€™ll cherish for the rest of my life.โ€
