Rodgers – We Are Making Progress

Brendan Rodgers says he believes his side are making progress this season although he accepts that it is still a battle for survival

Early indications suggest that the Swans are more than equipped to stay in the Premier League and currently they sit three points ahead of the bottom three as the season gets ready to pass it’s first quarter mark.

That gap could be extended on Saturday as 17th placed Bolton arrive at the Liberty and that could make for a strong position for Rodgers’ men as they head into a tricky November.

And he believes the side are making good progress as he explained to the Evening Postย “Of course this season is ultimately about staying in the league

“But I think we have shown that we can be more than a surviving team.

“Every game is difficult, in every game you have to find solutions, but I feel we are making progress.

“We are very confident that we can continue working well.

“We cannot get too disappointed when we lose or draw, and we cannot get too carried away when we win.

“It’s vital we stay level-headed โ€” that’s something I’ve talked to the players about ever since I came here. Last Saturday was a disappointment for us, but we can’t be too disappointed because there were so many great areas of our game.

“It’s going to be about how we grow this season,” Rodgers adds.

“The objective is to make sure we stay in the league, but within my own mind, knowing this group of players, I believe we have the capacity to improve on that.

“We can’t get too carried away, but as long as there is growth in the team, I will be happy.

“Where that takes us we will have to wait and see

“I am very optimistic in my professional and personal life,” he says.

“I look at Wolves as another sign of our progress even though we should have won and we need to win games like that in future.

“We did everything you could ask of an away team โ€” up until the 83rd minute.

“We had been perfect. We quietened the crowd โ€” we hid the ball, we kept possession of the ball and we created chances.

“Everything was going swimmingly for us but then, probably through nothing they did as a team but more what happened to us, we let them back into it.

“It’s natural when you are 2-0 up with ten or 12 minutes to go that you want to defend that. You want to see the game through.

“That meant the momentum of the game changed, but it’s important when that happens that you concentrate on getting the basics right. That’s something we will talk about this week.

“Great credit goes to the players,” Rodgers continues.

“There was great improvement at Wolves from the previous week, because against Norwich we had not been at our best.

“At Wolves we showed our organisation and our resilience as well as our quality in possession.

“We worked really hard to reinforce those qualities and they were there for everyone to see.

“We have got our first away point, which got forgotten a little bit with everything that happened last weekend,” he points out.

“Now we look forward to playing in front of our own supporters again, and hopefully getting another positive result.”
