Rodgers said “I must pay must respect to the Liverpool supporters because not too many teams will get a round of applause off the home fans when they walk off here

“People can see the confidence and the belief in my players.

“We play our own game and it was a great demonstration of what we are about.

“It’s our aim going into the game, frustrate the opponent and the crowd by keeping the football.

“The Liverpool supporters know their football and how they want it to be played, credit must go to them for showing that bit of class at the end.

“It was fantastic,” said Rodgers

“I felt that we were ready to come to a big team and put in a performance.

“The first games we have had away from home have been about finding out about the league and the quality of the big teams we are growing into it now.

“To come to Anfield and put in a performance like that at such a big club with great players fills me with great pride.

“We were a bit fortunate in the first half but coming to a place like this you need that bit of luck sometimes.

“But there was nothing lucky about the result. My players were fantastic and they deserve every plaudit they get.

“Collectively as a team they were outstanding. There is big pressure coming to a place like Anfield.

“I thought we made a big step forward with that performance. It will give us a big boost going forward.”
