Rodgers – It Is Not After The Lord Mayor’s Show

Brendan Rodgers dismissed suggestions that Sunday’s clash against Aston Villa could be a case of being after the Lord Mayor’s show

Rodgers is preparing his side for the latest clash in their Premier League schedule and was quick to point out that the focus was very much on what lay ahead rather than what had just passed.

Successive games against Liverpool and Manchester United it was felt in some quarters would make Villa seem like an anti climax but with three points on offer, Brendan says that was very much not the case.

“I have no worries whatsoever about there being a case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show for us this weekend,” the Northern Irishman said.

“My players are fantastic, and they know that every game for us this season is a cup final.

“It’s my job to reinforce that, but I think they are aware that every game we play is vital for us, especially when we are at home.

“We are certainly not at the level where we can pick and choose which games we are going to perform in. We are not good enough to be doing that.

“I felt the game on Monday was more about the fact that Tottenham have some world-class players than anything else,” insisted Rodgers, who was in North London to see the match.

“People talk about David Silva, but Luka Modric was incredible the other night — he was unplayable.

“Then you had Gareth Bale, who is possibly the best left-sided player in the world right now.

“Tottenham were at the top of their game on Monday and sometimes when you go to face one of the big teams at their own ground, that’s what happens.

“I saw what I already knew — Tottenham showed they are going to be real contenders, and Villa are a side with a fantastic manager and a couple of players at the top end of the field who can really hurt you.”
