Brendan Rodgers wants to keep the momentum going in tomorrow’s FA Cup tie at Barnsley
Rodgers wants his side to head to Oakwell on the back of impressive results against Spurs and Tottenham and believes with a bit of luck there is no reason why the Swans could not piece together a good cup run
He told the Evening Postย “With a wee bit of luck and draw that favours you, doing what Stoke did is certainly something that’s achievable
“We are well aware that we have a tough tie with Barnsley first up, but this is a competition where I want to do well.
“We all had one of the best days of our lives at Wembley last May, and there are not a lot of chances to get back there when you are playing at this level.
“After our experience there last year, I don’t think there’s anyone who would not like to go back.
“We have come out of the Christmas period on a real high and we want to keep the momentum going,” he added.
“I think there’s more to gain from doing well in the cup than not doing well, so we want to get through.
“We were disappointed to lose at Shrewsbury (in the second round of the Carling Cup this season) and we want to do well in every game we play.
“The one good thing about losing at Shrewsbury was that it showed that whoever we are playing, we cannot afford to take our foot off the pedal.
“As a result, I think you will see the difference this weekend.
“It will be a demanding game for us,” Rodgers stressed.
“I saw Barnsley at Brighton earlier in the season and they have an excellent manager in Keith who has done very well.
“They are a good footballing side. They have unfortunately lost their captain, who has been a real catalyst for them, but they have other players with quality.
“We were in the Championship last season, so we understand the motivation for teams at that level and we know we will have to be at the top of our game to get a result.”
