Brendan Rodgers insists his side will be approaching tomorrow’s game against Manchester City with no fear of their opponent
“In terms of resources, we shouldn’t even be on the same pitch as these guys,” said Rodgers in today’s Western Mail.
“They are at that level now, they have one of the best squads in Europe.
“But that’s the beauty of football. If you get a group of players together and give them the belief and confidence to maximise how they play you never know what will happen.
“If you look at the game at the Eithad it was a really defining moment for us at this level.
“It was always going to be interesting to see how we could cope with one of the biggest squads in European football and for an hour we coped really well, but obviously their quality came through at the end and they won the game.
“It was a good moment for us because we showed we can continue to play our game in the Premier League.
“A number of months on and our performances and mentality have matured.
“We know we are playing against a top team with top players, but we’ve got no fear of any opponent and that’s the mark of this side.
“I’ve told our boys it’s not the team sheet that beats you, it’s the guys on the field.
“If you give a bad player time he can play football, if you give a good player time he will kill you.
“If they bring their top game and we bring ours, the likelihood is they will win because that is why that are at that level.
“We want to bring our ‘A’ game into it and if they have an off day then hopefully it will go the same way as some of the big games we’ve had here.
“I’ve really tried to sell it to the players.
“We have a style and a way of playing but ultimately it’s about results and I think we have a style that can get results.
“From that first game against Manchester City we have grown into the league.
“We know we are going to lose games at this level, it’s the nature of the league because there are some top teams but it means we arrive into every game without a fear of losing.”
