Media Overdrive – Brendan Still Linked With Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers remains at the top of Liverpool’s wanted list according to the bookies and yesterday met with Swans Chairman Huw Jenkins but it seems to be over transfer targets

In a shocking twist of events a manager and a Chairman sat down yesterday in Swansea during a close season something which you cannot ever imagine happening at a football club especially not at a football club that is on the verge of doubling their transfer record.

As the local paper fuelled speculation with the most over reactionary front page of all time, the media went into overdrive seemingly with nothing more to back up the speculation than conjecture and the desire to create a story around a one great football club (Liverpool) and their search for a manager which is probably long since proving that their greatness is indeed very much in the past.

Whilst neither Brendan or the Swans were denying the speculation there has also been no announcement to state that Brendan’s viewpoint has changed since he publically distanced himself from wanting to talk to Liverpool a little under two weeks ago.

Roberto Martinez looks set to turn down the reds as he appears to want more control than their American owners will give him and Brendan is known to follow similar viewpoints to Roberto in terms of the role of a manager within a football club.

Today’s Western Mail report that Huw Jenkins looked ‘relaxed’ yesterday (Chairman in looking relaxed during the close season shocker – can you ever imagine that happening to Martin Edwards or Phil Gartside?) whilst the talks at the Liberty were rumoured to be anything from a desperate plea to keep his manager to the continuing discussion over who they could add to their Premier League squad for next season.

Meanwhile the local evening paper asked fans the stupid question of the day “How would you feel is Brendan left” sounding almost hopeful that he may as it will make the colum inches easier to fill for at least a few weeks and to make a full front page story from nothing in particular is spectacularly amateurish at best given the extra exposure the Swans have given them over the course of the last 12 months.

As ever there could well be a case here of ‘no smoke without fire’ but at the moment nobody knows and until Brendan, Huw or even Liverpool show their cards nobody will know either.

Brendan remains Swansea City manager as I write this and that to be honest is the only fact that any of us knows at this point in time.
