Vorm – Laudrup Appointment Pleased Me

Michel Vorm says that he was pleased the Swans appointed Michael Laudrup to replace Brendan Rodgers

Vorm was away at Euro 2012 this summer with the Dutch squad and was given extra time off to recover and only last week joined back up with the Swans squad on their pre season tour of the US.

And he admits that all the talk was positive about the Swans whilst he was with the Dutch on their poor Euro 2012 showing

Vorm said: “When I joined up with the national team in the summer, all the guys from the Premier League were only positive about Swansea.

“Robin van Persie said to me that Swansea were the surprise team in the Premier League because of the way we played.

“At the beginning of the season people were asking if we could keep it going and we did.

“Of course we played some bad games as well, but that is normal in a 38-game season.

“If you look throughout the season, everybody was positive about what we did.

“After Brendan left, I thought ‘OK, what’s going to happen now?’,” said Vorm.

“I was obviously disappointed to see Brendan go because he was the manager who brought me here and I had good communication with him from the day I arrived.

“But when the club signed Michael I was very pleased.

“His playing career was amazing, he knows a lot about football and he is a really experienced guy.

“He has managed in Spain and the style he likes to play is quite similar to how we want to play at Swansea.

“I don’t think there is a better replacement for Brendan than Michael.

“The Euro campaign was a disappointment for me and the team, so I can’t wait to get the season started,” he said.

“Some important people have left the club over the summer, but the bulk of the squad is still here and looking forward to the new campaign.

“We did well last season but that doesn’t count for anything now because we all start with zero points.

“We will have to work even harder than we did last season to achieve the same goal.

“But I believe the experience we gained in our first season in the Premier League will be a huge help.”
