Laudrup backs Gerhard Tremmel

SWANSEA CITY keeperย Michel Vorm has been ruled out for two months after tearing an adductor muscle in the 1-0 defeat at Manchester City.

But Swans bossย Michael Laudrup has backed reserve stopper Gerhard Tremmel to succeed when he gets thrown into the deep end against Liverpool and Chelsea this week.

Scans yesterday confirmed that Netherlands international Vorm, who recently signed a new four-year Swans deal to ward off interest from top clubs, will be on the sidelines until Christmas after damaging his groin trying to keep out Carlos Tevezโ€™s winner at the Etihad Stadium.

It is a hammer blow for Swansea with Vorm voted their player of the season in last yearโ€™s impressive Premier League bow.

But 33-year-old Tremmel has insisted he will be ready to impress โ€“ and he has the support of Laudrup ahead of Wednesdayโ€™s Capital One Cup trip to Liverpool and the visit from European champions Chelsea on Saturday.

โ€œIt is some games to start with, but Gerhard is ready,โ€ said Laudrup.

โ€œIt is very sad for the ones getting injured, but that is a part of being in a sportย like this.

โ€œInjuries happen and the next man suddenly has to be ready. Now it is his turn.โ€

Laudrup revealed Vorm had felt a niggle in his groin before the fateful dive to try and keep out Tevezโ€™s effort, the Argentineโ€™s strike the only goal of the gameย as Swansea both frustrated and frightened the champions.

But after the injury the Dane described as โ€œfreakโ€, Tremmel said he is ready to deliver on his opportunity.

The former Red Bull Salzburg keeper said: โ€œIt is tough for Michel, but it is a good chance for me now.

โ€œI didnโ€™t have much to do on Saturday which was fortunate because it was freezing and it is difficult to come into a game so cold like that from the bench.โ€
