Bony Double Sends Swans Through

Bony’s double came in a three minute spell in the second half just as it looked as if the Swans were to find that their famous win at Old Trafford in the last round would go unrewarded with a progression through to the last 16 of the competition.

The FA Cup may be some form of a distraction for the Swans at the moment although it may be a welcome won having not won in the Premier League since the start of December although games starting Tuesday against Fulham, West Ham and Cardiff are more crucial to the club then any tie that tomorrow’s draw throws up for them at the end of their four match run in the league (Stoke being the fourth of those fixtures)

It had for long periods looked like a matter of history repeating itself after Birmingham knocked the Swans out of the Capital One Cup earlier this season until Bony first converted Lemah’s cross and then just two minutes later chipped Doyle in the Birmingham goal for the second – and eventually crucial – goal.

The win ended a poor week for the Swans as there seemed to be an almost enjoyment in some sections of the media of their slip down the table coupled with reports of a training ground bust up between Chico Flores and Garry Monk also surfaced.

Lee Novak had given the Swans the lead in the first half when he headed home a cross in the 15th minute whilst Jordi Amat was guilty of missing the best chance for the Swans when he should have scored to send the teams in level.

The victory puts the Swans into the hat for tomorrow’s draw at Wembley where they will be ball number 15 ready for the tie which will take place on the weekend of February 15.
