Michu Is Committed Says Monk

Michu returned after three months out on the sidelines in last week’s home defeat to West Brom and whilst it is fair to say that he looked far from completely fit it was a boost to to the fans at least to see him returning even if ultimately the game ended in a disappointing defeat.

Michu has not scored for the Swans since netting in the Europa League back in October against Kuban Krasnodar whilst his last Premier League goal came back in September at Crystal Palace – just one of two league goals he has scored this season.

That is in contrast to last year when – in his first season at the club – he scored 22 times, 18 of them in the league and was hailed as one of the bargains of the season having cost the Swans just ร‚ยฃ2m when they purchased him.

A spell of course on the sidelines will always mean less goals but it is also right to say that the impact of Michu even in the early part of the season was far smaller this season then it was last time around.

When Michael Laudrup was sacked last month it was suggested that Michu wouldn’t be too far behind his former manager out of the door but it was suggested by Monk that this may not be the case

รขโ‚ฌล“When we were injured together I had a lot of conversations with him,รขโ‚ฌย said Monk. รขโ‚ฌล“He is a very quiet guy and reserved and he doesnรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt speak much, but when he does he speaks sense and that is not the impression I got from talking to him.

รขโ‚ฌล“And when Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขve spoken to him doing this job he wants to do well for the club and for himself. He wants to push on and the thing is heรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs a goalscorer.

รขโ‚ฌล“He wants to be out there scoring goals and thatรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs what drives him. If you had seen him this week you wouldnรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt have thought he was thinking about anything but doing well for the club.

รขโ‚ฌล“He is pain-free now, thatรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs the biggest thing. Pushing himself in training gives everyone else a lift. He has been good.รขโ‚ฌย

Whether Michu will start against Everton tomorrow remains to be seen but Monk admits at the moment that he is selecting each team based on the opponents and which personnel he thinks suits each particular fixture

รขโ‚ฌล“If we chuck in a half-fit Michu and you have other players who are fully fit, itรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs poor towards the rest of the squad.

รขโ‚ฌล“But I understand his quality and he is a massive player for us. You just have to see what games we have got, which games suit him and go from there.

รขโ‚ฌล“That is how I am trying to look at each game, see which personnel suits which game.รขโ‚ฌย

Personally I think Michu will start tomorrow on the bench but only time will tell
