Monk – We Deserved At Least A Point

For long periods it looked like it could have been more for the Swans who led through Wilfried Bony’s excellent header in the first half. Two goals within two minutes though put that result in doubt but an own goal from Flamini at the end rescued a point for the Swans and Monk is right when he says it was the least we deserved from the game.

Monk seemed to have his tactics spot on as the possession afforded to Arsenal was largely wasted thanks to a well organised defence and a midfield that battled for everything. Couple that with an always willing outlet in Bony to hold the ball up on many occasions it was a performance that showed that we do really have the desire and fight to stay in this division something that looked if it was missing for a couple of games.

Two tough away trips this week have yielded just a point but could have been more and it is also the level of the performances that give us more heart going forward to the next two games against Norwich and Hull.

Two wins in those games would surely banish all talk of relegation from the Liberty Stadium but we need the same levels of intensity and desire to ensure that will happen. Both Chris Hughton and Steve Bruce were present at the Emirates last night and they surely must have been impressed by what they saw.

รขโ‚ฌล“We showed what we can do tonight,รขโ‚ฌย said Monk. รขโ‚ฌล“We knew we would have to accept that we wouldnรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt have as much of the ball, coming to a place like this after their result on the weekend.

รขโ‚ฌล“We came here with a game plan, and it worked well.

รขโ‚ฌล“Unfortunately, during a two-minute period, we were punished heavily again, but we made sure we kept pushing them and didnรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt let our heads drop.

รขโ‚ฌล“The least we deserved was a point. Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขm pleased for the players and also the fans, who have travelled all this way.

รขโ‚ฌล“If youรขโ‚ฌโ„ขd have offered us a point before the game, we would have said yes. Every point is vital.

The point takes the Swans to the 30 point barrier with seven games left to play and Norwich arrive at the Liberty on Saturday with the Swans knowing that a win – which would be Monk’s second in charge – would be very welcome indeed
