The Dutch Number 3 goalkeeper moved to Spurs less than two weeks ago as a side deal from the one that saw Ben Davies also move to White Hart Lane and Gylfi Sigurdsson return to Swansea as the final pawn in the transfer.
Vorm had been pushed down the pecking order at Swansea by the early summer arrival of Lucas Fabianski who was always coming in as first choice keeper after expressing his desire to leave Arsenal after helping them to FA Cup glory. Fabianski wanted first team football and whilst I suspect it was not guaranteed it is probably as close as you will get to a guaranteed place for him to come to the Liberty.
That left Vorm fighting it out with Gerhard Tremmel to warm the bench for most league games – a battle I can imagine Vorm could have won but clearly the Spurs bench was more appealing too him although I also imagine he will get more first team football thanks to Spurs Europa League campaign.
Vorm had had three seasons at Swansea after being signed close to the start of our very first Premier League campaign and he was almost solely responsible for some of our league points in that first campaign with a string of hugely impressive performances as the Swans upset the odds.
He never really managed to match the dizzy heights of that campaign though and last season came under some criticism from the Swans fans for some poor displays which culminated in his part in one of the most farcical goals of the season in the last home game against Southampton.
Although that was not the last straw I suspect it made the Swans decision to be moving for a new keeper the right one and it was shortly after the season ended that they confirmed the capture of Fabianski from Arsenal.
That left Vorm heading to the World Cup pondering his future and it was not long after his return from watching the Dutch secure 3rd place in Brazil that he decided that future lay elsewhere and he moved to Spurs as understudy to Hugo Lloris.
Despite moving as second choice at one club to second choice at another Vorm claims that it was an easy decision to make the move as he told the Spurs official site รขโฌลIt was quite an easy decision for me to be honest,
รขโฌลFor me it’s one of the best clubs in the Premier League. I’m very pleased to have joined here and I’m looking forward to training with the boys.
รขโฌลTo be at a top team is a new challenge and I’m really looking forward to it.
รขโฌลThat’s why I signed here รขโฌโ to taste how it is to play for a big club like Spurs.รขโฌย
How much game time Vorm will get remains to be seen but he has to hope that his move works out better than the last Dutch goalkeeper who said he was going to a bigger club…
